O AquaRio acaba de lançar uma votação especial para escolher o nome do primeiro filhote de tubarão galha branca de recife nascido no Brasil. O nascimento inédito, que aconteceu em 17 de dezembro de 2024, representa um importante avanço para a conservação da espécie Triaenodon obesus, considerada “Quase Ameaçada” pela União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza (IUCN).
O público pode votar entre cinco opções de nomes, todas com significados especiais:
• Gaia: Personificação da Terra na mitologia grega, associada à criação e fertilidade da natureza.
• Sharkira: Um trocadilho divertido com o nome da cantora Shakira e a palavra “shark” (tubarão, em inglês).
• Lady Gaga: Homenagem à cantora Lady Gaga, que em breve estará no Brasil.
• Natalina: Referência ao nascimento da filhote, ocorrido na semana do Natal.
• Ayla: Nome de origem turca que significa “luz da lua”, fazendo alusão aos hábitos noturnos da espécie.
A pequena fêmea nasceu com 65 cm e 1,2 kg e, desde então, tem recebido cuidados veterinários intensivos. Atualmente, já pesa 1,9 kg e mede 70 cm, apresentando comportamentos típicos da espécie, como períodos de descanso no fundo do tanque e maior atividade à noite e durante a alimentação.
O nascimento é um marco para a ciência e a conservação, pois é o primeiro registro de reprodução da espécie no país. A reprodução do tubarão galha branca é lenta e com poucos filhotes por gestação, o que torna o feito ainda mais relevante. Além de contribuir para novos estudos sobre o comportamento e o desenvolvimento da espécie, o nascimento reforça a importância da conservação dos oceanos.
O filhote já pode ser visitado no tanque “Tubarões de Pequeno Porte”, localizado ao lado esquerdo do aquário dos peixes-palhaços. A campanha de escolha do nome é mais uma forma de aproximar o público da causa ambiental e de estimular o cuidado com a vida marinha.
O resultado da votação será divulgado na próxima quinta-feira, dia 17, nas redes sociais do AquaRio.
