O Vasco da Gama venceu o Botafogo nos pênaltis e avançou para a semifinal da Copa do Brasil. Após empate em 1 a 1 no tempo normal — mesmo resultado do primeiro jogo —, a decisão foi para as cobranças, e o time cruz-maltino venceu por 5 a 3, no Estádio Nilton Santos.

Nuno Moreira abriu o placar para o Vasco, e Alex Telles, de pênalti, empatou ainda no primeiro tempo. Na disputa de penalidades, o goleiro Léo Jardim defendeu a cobrança inicial do adversário, também batida por Alex Telles. Os vascaínos converteram todas as tentativas, e Robert Renan fechou a série que confirmou a classificação.

O Vasco enfrentará o Fluminense na semifinal, em mais um clássico carioca. Será a segunda vez consecutiva que o clube de São Januário disputa esta fase da competição. Os mandos de campo serão definidos em sorteio realizado pela CBF em dezembro.

As duas equipes voltam a campo pelo Campeonato Brasileiro no domingo (14), pela 23ª rodada. O Vasco recebe o Ceará, às 20h30, em São Januário. Já o Botafogo visita o São Paulo, às 17h30, no Morumbis.
